CHOQOLAQA STONE FOREST, THE LUNAR PARADISE.

DURATION: 1 day DEPARTURE DATE: Every Sunday and holidays. DIFFICULTY: Intermediate ALTITUDE: 4800 masl HIKING TIME: 3 hours DEPARTURE: 2:00 am/ RETURN: 9:00 pm.   We start this fascinating adventure at 2:00 am (tolerance 20 Min) with the pick up at the office or in the center of the city, to go to the upper part of the Colca Valley. 7:00 a.m. We will make a brief stop at the Mirador del Altiplano to appreciate the lagoon where we will do some Andean bird watching. Then we head to our goal, the paradise of CHOQOLAQA, previously we will taste our breakfast snack, then we get ready to start our hike with a local villager and his llamas cargueras. We will hike for 40 minutes uphill, we will arrive rewarding to the stone city. We will find gigantic stone formations, carved by wind erosion. We will travel around 20 hectares of land and we will be able to distinguish rock formations such as elephants, trains, a cathedral, condors, seals, castles and whatever our imagination allows us. Legend has it that there was a prosperous city who disobeyed the gods, who turned this city into stone. As we walk through the ancient city, each part of this forest reveals a mystical place. We will spend about 3 hours walking around the site and taking fun pictures. After our tour in the stone forest we will enjoy our lunch. We continue and go to relax in the thermal pools of Chaquella, for approximately 45 minutes. Finally we will return directly to the city of Arequipa. Arequipa. 9:00 pm Approx. we finish the tour at the tourist stop.
